* * * *

Gavin had just finished talking with Dr. Burke when Uriel stepped into the room. Even though Dr. Sheehan had said Uriel had gotten to Noah in time, Uriel still looked worried and angry.

Rightfully so, and Gavin was beyond livid that his father was still acting like an ape. What was with his folks? His father’s behavior went beyond concern. It was bordering on insanity. His dad had been the one who’d told Gavin to get his head out of his ass and move past his tragedy. His mother had been the one who’d wanted Gavin to never leave home again.

He would’ve called to talk some sense into his mother, but Gavin didn’t want to deal with that right now. Even Dr. Burke had advised him to leave the situation alone for the moment.

“How’re you feeling?” Uriel took a seat on the bed next to Gavin.

“A bit tired, but better. I’m glad you suggested Dr. Burke. He’s a nice guy and real easy to talk to.” Gavin slid his socks and shoes off, sighing as he wiggled his toes.

“I’m glad he’s helping.” Uriel placed a kiss on the side of Gavin’s head.

“How’s Noah?” Gavin still couldn’t believe someone had attacked him. It didn’t make any sense. From what Uriel had said, the stranger had been following them, not Noah.

“Getting better, but he still can’t remember what happened to him. Dr. Sheehan said his brain has blocked out the incident.”

That was too bad. Gavin would love if Noah knew what had happened, so that the stranger could pay for what he’d done.

Uriel stretched out on the bed, and Gavin lay next to him. With everything so crazy, he needed the warmth and comfort of his mate. He needed a solid rock he could lean on.

He sighed in contentment when Uriel wrapped an arm around him and pulled him close. “This life-on-the-edge bullshit is wearing thin.”

“It’s got me exhausted,” Gavin said. “Hunters, mad scientists, that reporter that went into hiding, and creatures from Hell escaping. It’s enough to wear a person out.”

“How you holding up, hon?” Uriel brushed his knuckles over Gavin’s cheek. “The truth.”

“I’m working through my problems,” Gavin said. “But I no longer feel like I’m drowning in despair. I’m looking forward to our life together.”

“Me, too.” Uriel skimmed his hand down Gavin’s side, eliciting a shiver. Gavin scooted closer, curling deep into his arms. “I talked with my alpha while we were at the clinic.”

Gavin hated that Uriel tiptoed around Sebastian’s name, but was grateful for the consideration. Although he was working through his issues, he’d yet to tackle facing Sebastian. Sooner or later he would have to, but for now he was perfectly fine avoiding the guy. “What did he say?”

Uriel leaned back and stared into Gavin’s eyes. “You might not like what he told me.”

“Unless he said he’s coming to visit, I can handle whatever he said.”

“After the stunt your dad pulled today, he threatened Charles with a month in the underworld if he didn’t get his shit together and leave us alone.
